Hi there and welcome to my blog! My name is john Malayter and I play the guitar and write songs.
I'm also the J in JEM Farm, with my wife Elizabeth, we run a small family farm in Rogersville Tennessee where we raise pastured hogs, chickens some rabbits, goats and veggies.
I brief musical history about myself; I began playing a LONG time ago after being given a nylon string guitar from my uncle at the age of 13. Actually I don't remember what the heck I did with that but I do know I fell in love with music at that point. From there I recieved an Epiphone 12 string which really opened the door to a whole other world. Way back then 12 strings were pretty popular and I dove into everything I could get my hands on with the exception of electric guitar stuff. It was really frustrating trying to figure out how to get that electrical thing to make the same sounds that I heard on the records and in my head. So after several guitars and amps I broke off that relationship. Playing acoustic was easier for me to reproduce those "sounds" because playing an acoustic instrument is really a mechanical process and whatever you put in you get out and there are no knobs!
Throughout my musical career I've played guitar and mandolin, played in country western bands, rock bands, bluegrass bands and duets and most recently singer/songwriter solo act where I'm playing a lot of original material I've written as well as my personal set list that rattles around in my head from time to time.
How's that for brief? Make sure you sign up for updates on places I'll be playing, new songs and other info about me.
See you soon!
